Minimum Standards Are Not the Goal 

In the world of NCLB, who can blame educators for focusing on getting every child "over the bar?"  Sadly, reports and studies have repeatedly shown that this approach tends to have the opposite effect.  Instead of improving education, concentrating on teaching specific, lower level skills restricts the curriculum and dampens student and teacher enthusiasm for teaching and learning.

We believe that educators need to aim higher, not lower.  State content standards are the minimum speed, not the speed limit.
